VSAT Internet

VSAT are at the lower end of a product line of communication systems used for providing communication services that were traditionally only used for international services between earth Stations serving countries. These earth station typically make use of parabolic antenna with diameters between 7 and 32 Meters.

The focus is on VSAT system and Application that make use of geostationary satellite (GSO). These are satellite placed in the geostationary orbit over the equator of the earth at an altitude of 35 78km.

Satellite that are replaced in this orbit appear to “stand still” relative to any position on the earth and thus can be used to implement communication system

Using non-tracking antennas.

VSAT Equipment’s:

  • Antenna
  • Block up converter(BUC)
  • Low-noise block converter (LNB)
  • Orth mode transducer (OMT)
  • Interfaculty Link Cable (IFL)
  • Indoor unit (IDU)

Satellite internet Terminals:

General purpose VSAT terminals are becoming common. These essentially provide broadband internet Access and allow web browsing and emails. Costs can be quite low if your burst speed bit rate capacity is shared with many other terminals using the same satellite capacity, for example 30 VSATs may all share the same 512k down / 64k up capacity. This works fine for internet browsing but is unsuited to voice calls or video streaming which would cause congestion. If VOIP is required then higher monthly cost dedicated continues information rate (CIR) service is preferred.

VSAT Antenna:

VSAT antenna are made of iron glass or polyesters rein ford plastic.

VSAT System:

Consist of satellite, HUB and small earth stations. HUB is built near to the earthquarters, has the function of main control. The antenna diameter and power is bigger than small station.

The market for VSAT:

VSAT technologies have evolved to the point where VSATs are Able to address very efficiently most of connectivity needs of ICT users, from the residential market to trough to the corporate Market.

VSAT system have traditionally only seen application within large corporate because of the costs involved. This has been changed substantially since the advent of direct to home (DTH) television broadcasting, where it has been shown that VSAT receive only technologies can be applied in the consumer end-user markets. The success of these deployments.

  • the development of open standards that have lowered the costs of TVRO terminal.
  • The launching of GSO satellite utilizing ku band frequency that in turn allow the deployment of smaller remote terminals.
  • Modern GSO satellite deliver high power spot beams that are able to focus directly on specialized Market Area.
